FAQ's

  1. How old do you have to be to take a NRA Course?
  1. 12 years of age.

  1. How old do you have to be to take the AZ CCW course?
  1. 20 years and 6 months min.  This is due to the application being good for 6 months, I prefer that you be 21 years old or older.  As this is the minimum age for a AZ CCW

  1. Why don't you accept personal checks?
  1. I don't accept person checks due to the time it takes for them to clear the bank, and by the time they do, should they bounce, you have received the training and certification.  And I have no recourse to recover the training cost.

  1. Why do you not allow .22 caliber handguns for AZ CCW?
  1. The reason is that .22LR thru .25ACP are not ballistic effective as a defensive handgun caliber. This is due to the basaltic coefficient, and slug size not imparting enough energy into the target to stop the targets actions. (they are too small to stop an intruder).

  1. Do you offer an advanced course, or a tactical course?
  1. Yes I do, but they are not certified courses.  This means that yes you will receive the training and my knowledge for your use.

  1. What type of ammunition do you recommend for your courses?
  1. Since these are mainly courses where you are firing between 50 - 300 rounds I recommend bringing your simple reliable FMJ (Full Metal Jacket).  Now I am not going to begrudge you bringing a personal protection round such as Cor-Bon's, Winchester Silvertip, ect… It is a good idea to fire your defensive ammo at lest once a year so you know what to expect with it when you use it.

  1. I saw that you want students to bring hearing protection, what do you mean for hearing protection?
  1. For your safety, I require hearing protection.  This can be expanding foam inserts, tri-buffering plugs, ear muffs, or even electronic earmuffs.  Unless you are going to be spending a lot of time on ranges, I recommend expanding foam inserts.  They average about $0.75 a pair at most retail stores.

  1. Why do you want us to bring a flash drive to class?
  1. By bringing a flash drive I can give you a lot of the information from class in digital format to take with you to use at later dates.

  1. I don’t have a handgun, can I rent one form you?
  1. Unfortiounitly no. The reason is in order to keep classes affordable, I can not rent out handguns.  Now if you are taking a course with a friend(s) ask one of them if you can use theirs.  I do not require that you have handgun of your own.  I just can not rent one out to you, this is for AZ CCW, and Armed Guard Courses only.

  1. For private instruction you don't have any prices listed, why is that?
  1. I don’t list a price for private instruction due to for instruction of this type, I need to talk with you and we need to find out what it is you want to work on. From there we can figure out time frames, and items needed.  Then I can give you a price.

  1. Why do you offer women only courses, but not male only courses?
  1. This is due to that women are more comfortable taking courses with other women.  I do not want to intimidate women with a classroom of men who have prior experience.  And have them feel inadequate in comparison.  I do offer male only courses by request only.

  1. I have a group of 4H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 501c, Ect…  Do you offer discounted rates for these groups?
  1. Yes I do, the discount depends solely on if you are wanting the course donated, and number of students attending.  Please contact me for pricing details and to discuss this further.

  1. I am disabled, is this going to be a problem?
  1. Not that I can foresee. My training facility is fully ADA accessible, and compliant.  Now for the range it is an outdoor range, and I will work with your disability to the extent that I am able.  If I am not able too, I will assist you in finding an instructor and course that will.  So please contact me so we can discuss your situation .

  1. I am left handed, is this an issue?
  1. No, I have taught many left handed people.  The hardest aspect is training revolver shooters how to switch hands effectively for reloading.

  1. I have a handgun that I know nothing or very little about.  Can you advise me on this gun?
  1. Please contact me via email, and I will do my best to aid you with the pistol and the information you require.

  1. Why do you need to inspect my handgun prior to firing at the range?
  1. This is for everyone's safety, including yours.   With the range, and any life fire, there is a risk of injury.  We want to eliminate as much of that risk as possible.  Now, so long as your weapon is safe, in operating condition, I will allow it for range use.  I will only disqualify those that are unsafe, and exlain to you why I found it to be unsafe.
